Day 10 – Loch Lomond & The Trossachs (15/08/23)
And so we are on day 10 and, with only 4 more days to go, we are nearly there!
Today’s 75 mile leg took us from Hamilton, around and out of Glasgow along the River Clyde – past the Big Bike, along the banks of beautiful Loch Lomond, then into the Trossachs & South West Highlands.
As you would expect, entering the mountainous region of Scotland, this was a hilly leg and we climbed a total of 2500ft.
Lots of people when cycling, especially on a long trip like this, will have time for a little reflection, so here are today’s thoughts.
Do you remember the good old days when you were sponsored, and it was all a sponsorship per mile, etc,; giving you a real target to head for and were paid out accordingly?
With this LEJOG Challenge we have been so lucky with the moral support and generous donations received from friends, family, colleagues, and also the suppliers and customers that we deal with on a day-to-day basis at B&D; contrary to the ‘good old days’, all of these kind donations have been made to our chosen charity – the British Heart Foundation – in advance of us completing this mission.
When the going really does get tough – as the hills get steeper and the rain drives harder – we are thinking that every pedal stroke is paying back the kindness and that all of the effort exerted is worthwhile and justified for the donations received. Our commitment is to do our very best and complete the challenge in order to reflect what you have all done with sponsorship for the British Heart Foundation charity; funds that will be so greatly appreciated by all those that eventually benefit from their help and research.
We will rest tonight before tomorrow’s Tyndrum to Fort Augustus 82 Mile section.
