Day 12 – The Loch Ness Monster (17/08/23)

There is only 189 miles left.

We set off from Fort Augustus with the type of weather we could only dream of!
We have been so lucky.

The climbing from Fort Augustus starts immediately after breakfast and continues for 5 miles;  we quickly realise a big breakfast is not always a good idea.

We have travelled the length of Loch Ness today and it is beautiful.  We also continued to climb – but we are getting used to that now.

We met the official ‘Nessie’ hunter, and Kelly did her own stint on the lookout for the Monster of the Deep!!

We were also joined by some animal friends!

The forecast for Saturday is winds of 40mph+, therefore, a decision has been taken to cycle further tomorrow than the original 77 miles. We are extending it to 107 miles.

This will reduce our final ride on Saturday to 20 miles, meaning if the forecast high winds are real, we will have less of a struggle to reach our deadline finish in John O’ Groats on time safely.

Wish us luck, tomorrow will now be the toughest day yet
