Day 3 – Kelly wears ‘The Jersey’ (08/08/23)

So day three started a little grey with the weather not as good as we might have hoped.

One major climb in the middle of the day, just before lunch, really took it out of us, but it was only one of three climbs so you would think it would be an easy day….but we had to do 84 miles; the longest yet, so certainly not easy.

Day 3 route took us through Exeter, with the stunning Exeter Cathedral; around the Ham Wall Nature Reserve; through Glastonbury; into Wells and by the Bishops Palace; and to our Hotel stop in Wookey Hole

Kelly was wearing ‘The Jersey’.
Now you may be familiar with the Tour de France: Spotty Polka Dot Jersey – King of the Mountains; Green Jersey – Points Leader; and the Yellow Jersey – Overall Leader/Winner. Well the LEJOG 2023 Tour awards a Jersey for “Outstanding Something”; this can be for ‘anything’ and is passed on from one rider to the next. Kelly got awarded this ‘striking’ Jersey for being outstanding in a courage for riding an unknown bike, following the mechanical issues with her bike on Day 2. The previous day’s winner received the prize for the ‘worst condition tyre ever seen’.
Kelly passed the baton to the next worthy winner for doing ‘6 1/2 extra miles than necessary…on an 84 mile leg’. (I am not sure why he did this??!)

Unfortunately the grey skies that started the day turned to rain after the second brew stop and it absolutely hammered it down; we  all arrived at the hotel soggy!.

Time for rest before the Day 4 leg;  a 76 mile route from Wookey Hole, through Cheddar Gorge up to Hereford.
