Day 6 – Sunshine & Smiles (11/08/23)
Leaving Shrewsbury we again had the fortune of beautiful, lovely, sunny weather.
The day’s route to Leigh, just to the West of Manchester, took us briefly in-and-out of Clwyd – Wales and up through Cheshire and into Lancashire.
There was a bit of a tailwind and only two little Hills to speak of; the rest of the ride was beautifully flat.
We have seen some amazing scenery again today and had some wonderful food.
It has been a day of visitors!! A visit from Mitch at the first Tea stop in Hanmer; and catch ups with family members and cycling buddies of the other riders taking part.
Mitch said we looked so smiley given the craziness and distance of the challenge, he couldn’t believe it.
We know he enjoyed having the opportunity to show moral support and to pass on best wishes from all of the B&D team; but he also enjoyed talking to the other riders to get their stories.
One couple have travelled from Canada to specifically take part in LEJOG 2023 and one un-named gent said he enjoyed the ‘peace & quiet’ of this ‘holiday’- not being forced to sunbath or read a book!!
One other wonderful lady, Jackie, told the story of how she had done LEJOG previously but was knocked off her bike 60 miles from John O’Groates and due to being knocked unconscious was unable to complete the Challenge. We are all rooting for her to finish this time and when she completes LEJOG 2023 she can claim to have pretty much done it twice;….and she won’t mind us disclosing that she is 68. Inspirational!
We are looking forward to tomorrow, Leigh to Carnforth, although the weather forecast is to not be quite as lovely.
Think it’s going to be a wet one!
